Norwood School District is thrilled to announce outstanding achievements as reflected in the Illinois State Board of Education’s recently released School Report Card. Both Norwood Elementary School (NES) and Norwood Primary School (NPS) have earned Commendable designations this year, a significant mark of progress and dedication.
Norwood Elementary School, previously labeled a Targeted school for the past four years, has now shed that label and came within just 1.74 points of reaching the Exemplary designation—a remarkable achievement. Additionally, Norwood Primary School, designated as Comprehensive two years ago, has maintained its Commendable status for the second year in a row, with an impressive 30-point increase in its overall score.
In a comparison of nearly 40 area school districts, Norwood District ranked first in ELA Student Growth Percentile for grades 3-8. This is a testament to the collaborative efforts of all staff who have played a role in each student’s success—from Pre-K and paraprofessional support to MTSS groups and core academic teaching. Every role has contributed to this accomplishment, showing the collective impact on our students.
The district's math growth also ranked high, tying for 8th place among the 41 districts, illustrating our dedication to building a strong foundation in math achievement. Moreover, the report card highlighted progress in student attendance, with Norwood showing year-over-year growth in this area. Attendance remains a priority, and this improvement reflects our ongoing efforts to foster an environment that encourages and supports student engagement.
While we celebrate these gains, we remain focused on further improving proficiency in IAR assessments. Meaningful change takes time, and as our interventions, instructional practices, and curriculum adjustments take hold, we’re confident in continuing this positive trajectory. By utilizing evidence-based teaching methods and maintaining high expectations, your children are rising to meet new challenges and demonstrating their potential.
